I started braiding leashes thanks to my Australian Shepherd, Taylor. On our way to his first Novice trial in July 2005, he ate my Sheltie's braided show lead. When I say ate, I mean he ATE it!! This put me on the search for a replacement.
I have always loved the braided Kangaroo leather leads, but couldn't quite bring myself to get one, especially knowing Taylor's love for the taste of leather!! (He has since eaten two more leashes and a several necklaces that he stole out of my bag!)
Since I no longer had a nice leash to use for showing, I started to think about braiding my own. I started with the round leather lace that you find at craft stores and while it makes a very sturdy leash, it wasn't what I really wanted. I then switched to Suede lace which I still use.
In the mean time after many hours on the internet I started finding some Kangaroo Lace suitable for braiding. I have since found several suppliers which gives me the range of colors I now offer. I still spend as much time as I can trying to find more colors or even higher quality kangaroo leather.
Just recently I found the Parachute cord or Paracord as it is commonly called and have added it to the materials I offer. I work on finding new and better ways to braid, finish and care for my products. My ultimate goal is to provide a high quality long lasting braided piece that is Exactly what you are hoping for!
